Vase (Surreal), 1920

Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends of the arts,

Welcome to the ANDRÉ EVARD homepage! From a deep admiration for him and his work, I have dedicated myself to revealing this pioneer of Swiss modernism to the art world.

I first came into contact with this groundbreaking painter in the 1970s and a lifelong fascination began. A few years later, I managed to acquire large parts of his estate.

Since the establishment of the messmer art gallery in Riegel am Kaiserstuhl, two monographic exhibitions on André Evard have already taken place. Being a part of the Messmer Foundation, the Evard Collection is preserved and researched here. From time to time, we present selected works by the artist in the GALERIE MESSMER connected to the Kunsthalle. I developed my great passion for concrete-constructive art through André Evard’s work. In order to promote this special art movement, I dedicated in 2009 a €-10,000 art award to André Evard aimed at contemporary artists. In the past few years, around 2,500 artists have been presented to the general public.

With kind regards,
Jürgen A. Messmer

„André Evard means a lot to me and we discover (…) continuously new aspects in his multifaceted work. It still amazes me to the present day that he never let himself be pressed into a template and that he painted for the whole of his life both representational and as a constructivist”
